Programs
Sheriff Wooten has established a number of special programs since being elected.
Wooten’s Reading Crew

The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with the Pasquotank County Library in an effort to encourage and promote childhood literacy by forming “Wooten’s Reading Crew”. In partnership with the Pasquotank County Library, we rewarded children for their love of reading! Studies have shown that children who read regularly have better communication skills, higher self confidence, are more creative, and display more independence.
Project Lifesaver

The Project Lifesaver Program is run at a municipality level by public safety agencies and Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Tommy Wooten is proud to be equipped with this program. Citizens enrolled in Project Lifesaver wear a small transmitter on the wrist or ankle that emits an individualized frequency signal. If an enrolled person goes missing, the caregiver notifies their local Project Lifesaver agency, and a trained emergency team responds to the wanderer’s area. The first responders will then use the person’s individualized frequency to locate the position of the individual. The knowledge given from the community policing courses is best applied in this situation because the first responders will know how to best approach the person once found, and allow them to be brought back to safety.
American Flag Replacement Program

While patrolling the county, if a Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office deputy comes across a worn or tattered flag, they will approach the owner and offer a free replacement. The worn flag will then be placed into a donation box located in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office and later cremated with one of our local veterans. This initiative wouldn’t be possible without the partnership of Lowe’s Home Improvement of Elizabeth City and Twiford Funeral Homes, & Albemarle Crematorium. This is just one of the ways Sheriff Tommy Wooten’s team is partnering with local businesses to show American pride in Pasquotank County!
Retire Your Flag With Honor

The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office is proud of our part in the Retire Your Flag With Honor program. You can drop off your worn tattered flag at the Pasquotank Sheriff’s office on Colonial Avenue, Elizabeth City or at one of Twiford Funeral Homes’ locations. If you are not familiar with our Retire Your Flag With Honor program, we collect used worn flags and properly dispose of the flags by burning them. We drape a flag upon a deceased veteran’s casket who has requested cremation and cremate the flag with the veteran. By doing this, we are honoring the veteran and at the same time, we are properly disposing of the flag.
Operation Toy Soldier

Operation Toy Soldier is a nationwide not-for-profit program that helps our local military families. The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Tommy Wooten is proud to partner with Twiford Funeral Homes, & Albemarle Crematorium in supporting Operation Toy Soldier by collecting new, unwrapped toys. Donations can be dropped off at the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office lobby.
