Pasquotank Sheriff Tommy S. Wooten II
Sheriff Tommy S. Wooten II is a twenty year veteran with the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s office. Prior to being elected as Sheriff on November 6th, 2018, he was a Sergeant that supervised the daily operations for the Civil Division. He formerly worked in the patrol division for five years, leaving as second in charge on shift.
Tommy began his career in 2005 as the honor graduate of College of the Albemarle’s Basic Law Enforcement Training. Pasquotank County Sheriff Randy Cartwright hired him at the end of his law enforcement training, where he began working patrol. During his time on patrol, Tommy obtained certifications in Division of Criminal Information Module 1, Intoximeter, Radar, Standardized Field Sobriety Test, Crisis Intervention Team Training as well as many others.
In 2011, Tommy transferred into the Civil Division where he was tasked with serving Magistrate Summons, Civil Summons, Foreclosures, Subpoenas, Notice of Rights, Writs and Orders, along with transporting inmates from the local jail to the courthouse. He has also worked in court and registering and maintaining sex offenders on the sex offender registry at the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office. Tommy has also obtained further certifications in Division of Criminal Information Modules 2, 3, 5 and 6. In 2015 Tommy became a Field Training Officer charged with training new employees in the Civil Division, followed by First Line Supervision in 2016.
Tommy is an active board member with Port Discover, Stable Housing Improvement Project (SHIP) and recently agreed to be an advisory board member for ECSU’s criminal justice program. Tommy is also active in the community with Weeksville Lions Club, Towne South Church of Christ, Pasquotank Ministry Council for Education, ECPPS Safety Committee and many other boards and committees. As well as a Member for American Youth Soccer Organization where he coached. Tommy is very active with the Police Athletic League as well.
Tommy mentored Early College students at College of The Albemarle. As a public speaker Tommy has spoken on Domestic Violence at Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church, LEO appreciation service at Elizabeth City Baptist Church and also spoke at ECSU’s criminal justice job fair. Tommy has also volunteered with the local Boys Scouts and Summer Camp Wanna Wanna Go Go educating young children on the importance of fingerprints and how law enforcement uses fingerprints for identification purposes, as well as having the Sheriff’s Office participate in many other summer camps.
Prior to law enforcement, Tommy worked for T&C Towing Inc and Nor’eastern Hauling. Duties for T&C Towing were deckhand, chef, and assistant engineer. Tommy also trained new employees on assistant engineer operations and deckhand. He was general manager for Nor’eastern Hauling where he was in charge of daily operations, maintenance, and budget.
Tommy has been married to his wonderful wife Brandy since October 4th, 2003 and has been blessed with 2 son’s Brenden and Colten.
Tommy’s purpose and mission in life is to be the best public servant and protector for the citizens of Pasquotank County. As Sheriff of Pasquotank County, Tommy will without a doubt, continue to bring strong leadership with purpose and vision.
